From Sept. 2 to 13, 2011, 3 of us travelled from near the headwaters of the Marsh Fk. Canning River to the Beaufort Sea at the mouth of the Okpilak River. We utilized packrafts for the river portions and hiked in between the 4 rivers navigated during the trip.
We floated down the Marsh Fk. Canning past it's confluence with the Main Fk. Canning and took out at Cache Ck. , which we hiked up and over to the Saddlerochit River. We followed the Saddlerochit down to Saddlerochit springs and made the hop over to the Hulahula River. Near the Hula's mouth, we hopped over to the Okpilak and paddled out to near Arey Island where we were picked up by boat and taken to Kaktovik.
Upon arriving in Kaktovik, we learned that a captain had taken a Bowhead Whale that day. We watched the butchering of the whale and partook in the celebration and feast.
